what's new

In a few words, not much is new around here. We are pretty much set in our ways with not much room for variety. Jacob goes to work, I have my day with the kids, Jacob gets home, I run out the door to school 4 nights a week, I get home, Taylie is in bed and Luke naps, Luke wakes up, gets bathed, eats and we all go to bed. I will just give you a quick update on how the kids are.

Luke, is great! As you can see his time is spent increasing his fat stores.
He is doing a wonderful job.

Taylie....well she will be Taylie. I was out in the front room with Luke and I heard her start to fuss and cry. When I went to check on her, she was somehow managed to wiggle herself under the cover that is on her highchair with it still attached.

I asked her what was wrong and all she could say was : "mama, I stuck. help, i stuck!"

I thought that it may not be a bad idea to let Taylie pick out her clothes for the day, especially since we were not going anywhere. I thought that it may help us to ease up on this little power struggle we have be experiencing lately. Well, she pulled me to her closet and said that she wanted to wear this dress that grandpa got her on a vacation to Mexico. So I went to put it on her, but first she had to have her pajama pants taken off, but wanted to leave the shirt on. To finish off the outfit, she chose her sunday shoes with her sport socks. She wore this all day long, and only took it off to nap. Oh well, kids will be kids.

the next day, the variation of her outfit called for snow boots

our little chunky monkey

Just an update....Luke had his 2 month well baby check yesterday and he now weighs in at (drum roll please.....) 15 lbs 2 oz and 23.5 in long !!! The doctor said that he is "a beast". I am not sure which term I prefer because last time he was there he said that he was "enormous ". I just call him my little moose.

I miss these days....
and these.....

this was actually taken this morning. since then, the batteries have died in the swing. it made for a long afternoon.

Taylie loves to hold her brother. Too bad he doesn't share her enthusiasm.

He doesn't mind too much, when he is half asleep.

other forgotten posts of 2008....

Taylie's 2nd birthday!

Taylie turned 2 years old on Dec 2. We had a little get together for her with her Grandparents and aunts and uncles. Since we just had Luke 2 weeks before we decided that a big party with everybody all at once would be overwhelming, so we had everybody come in shifts. We had a family dinner and then did her cake and our present for her before everybody else got there.

in my family it is a tradition to do a Cookie Monster cake for the 1st birthday, this year we decided to do a Elmo cake (or "melmo", as she calls him...) since he was her favorite character for the moment. Even though his eyes look really freaky, she knew who he was supposed to be.

she did a pretty good job trying to blow out the candle, she was able to get it with some help from daddy.

mmmm....cake! all she really did was eat the frosting and leave the cake.

this is what we got her, it is a barn complete with animal noises. She got a bunch of other good stuff too because she is constantly getting spoiled by her aunts and uncles and grandparents. We didn't get many pictures of anything else because we had a little poop situation that I was cleaning up while she was playing and opening presents.

Christmas 2008

We had a pretty sad christmas this year. On the 23rd, Tayli came down with something that resembled chicken pox, but couldn't be 100% confirmed as that being what it was. The poor thing was misrable for a week. She was running high fevers and just didn't want to do anything. On Christmas morning, we asked her if she wanted to open her presents and she just said, "No." and laid on the couch and watched movies all day. It took quite a bit of coaxing to get her to open presents. The process took all day long!!! This picture was taken a few days after the worst of it was over. She loves the movie "Elf" with Will Ferrell. She calls it the "ho ho movie". So we didn't get any pictures of Christmas because it was so scattered and she was not interested, that when we got her to open something we had no time to grab the camera. We may have to steal some of Aunt Megan's pictures, I think she got some good ones....

he is how big?!?!?!

Just a quick little note to let you know that we had Luke weighed today and he weighs in at
13 lbs 14 oz!!! Not too bad for a 6 1/2 week old baby.....he is our cute little chunky monkey!

family photo shoot

We had the awesome opportunity to do a family photo shoot with a photographer who is building her portfolio. She was wanting to do a shoot with a baby, and since we have a baby, we were a good fit! She did an awesome job, especially since she was working with a less than agreeable 2 year old and a cranky 6 week old. Here are a few of the photos she sent me, I will put some more on when I get them. Her website is called twistedlabel.com if you want to check out more of her work.

catching up on old events

Happy Halloween 2008!!!

We did not have many good pictures of Halloween this year. The good ones I would have to scan into the computer....so maybe someday. Our little girl was a cute monkey complete with banana!

Here is a picture of our little monkey with her Uncle Jeremy and Auntie Becca.

Getting ready for baby....

While I was going through my photo discs, I realized that there were a few things that I forgot to include in our events leading up to the baby. It was getting closer to my due date and we hadn't really done a whole lot as far as his room and all that stuff. So when we picked up the mattress, of course, Taylie wanted to help clean it. She is the best little helper!

This is a picture of Luke's room when it was almost ready. Since this was taken we have hung up a curtain and it is a little more organized. Of course now that I have my little boy I HAD to go with a sports theme!

This is the cute crib with such a little manly sports pattern and it also gives you a look at the wall that Jacob did such a good job painting, with Taylie help of course.

So one of the few times in our almost 5 year marriage that Jacob decides to put his foot down is on decorations for his son's room. He fought tooth and nail to get this Notre Dame sign for Luke's room while I of course was going for BYU. My argument was that it would not match the colors that I picked out because I was convinced it would be green, but no! It had to match! He would flat out not buy the BYU one, so I gave in and let him hang this. Don't you worry honey.....the time will come when I will get what I want....this will come back to haunt you someday!!! Maybe not today or tomorrow, but it will come!!

The Baby Shower

Another thing was the great baby shower that one of my good friends, Brianne, and my visiting teachers threw for me. They did an awesome job and it was so nice. We had a potato bar for lunch and a really awesome strawberry cake for dessert. It was open house style so people could come and go and it was so nice to visit with everybody. It got especially lively when I started having some contractions and everybody thought that I was going to go into labor, but since it had been going on for a few weeks I was not concerned, but it kept everyone else on their toes!

Brianne made a cute diaper cake and had envelopes for everybody to write their return address on so I could send them a thank you note for their gifts and made little party favors and came up with a drawing for anybody who brought a pack of diapers could enter the drawing for a date night which included discount movie tickets and some gift certificates to go to dinner. What and awesome hostess huh?!

I ended up with so many diapers from her brilliant idea, which are almost gone by now! This is one of probably 6 packs of diapers.

inside this huge bag is a case of about 200 diapers!!!

This beautiful blanket was made by Jacob's step-mom Karen. She made one for Taylie too. I called her to see if she could teach me how to make one and she said that maybe I should wait because who knows what I may get later.....I am so thankful she gave me the hint because I tried to have her teach me anyway and to make a long story short, we all know that I am domestically challenged. I will leave it at that, those of you that know me well are laughing now and understand what I mean by that. Thanks for the blanket Karen, I love it tons!!
